Diese Stahlbrücke, eine Nietkonstruktion, wurde wegen Hochwassergefahr anstell der bisherigen Pontonbrücke in den Jahren 1936/37 als Hubbrücke gebaut.
Die feierliche Eröffnung und Einweihung der Brücke erfolgte an 23. Mai 1937 durch Landeshauptmann ÖkR. Josef Reither, Bürgemeister Julius Herbst und Abt. Amand John
Zur Errinerung an den in Melk geborenen Landespatron erhielt sie den Namen Sankt Leopold Brücke.
An 8. mai 1945 wurde die Brücke von einigen beherzten Melkern durch Beseitigung der bereits angebrachten Sprengladungen gerettet.

This steel bridge, a rivet construction, was built as a vertical lift bridge for risk of flood attack in place the existing pontoon bridge in 1936/37.
The grand opening and dedication of the bridge was carried out on 23 May 1937 by Governor ÖkR. Josef Reither, Mayor Julius Herbst and Dept. Amand John
Reminder to the saint patron born in Melk, she received the name Saint Leopold bridge.
At 8 May 1945, the bridge of a few courageous residents was saved by eliminating the already attached explosives.
