The 2.3-mile Panther Creek Trail comes off Middle Prong Trail, which begins at the end of the Tremont Road, and and connects to the Jakes Creek Trail and the Miry Ridge Trail at Jakes Gap. The Jakes Creek Trail leads to the Cucumber Gap Trail and on into Elkmont. The Miry Ridge Trail connects with the Appalachian Trail after 5 miles. Immediately after leaving the Middle Prong Trail there is a bridgeless creek crossing. Rock hopping is possible during low water times. The crossing can be difficult during high water times.
