This Grade I listed parish church is almost pure C12th. There have been restorations and changes made in the C15th, as a result of flooding, c.1450, the tower collapsed but was restored later on, the tower was strengthened in the C18th, and the south porch was added in the C19th with further restoration.
The church is built of rubble flint and septaria with some pudding stone in the tower. There are limestone ashlar dressings, a timber porch and plain tile roofs. The tower is slightly wider than the unaisled two-bay nave and is unbuttressed except for a large C18th red brick diagonal buttress to the south-west.
The clock 'face' is on the southern face of the church tower. It is unusual in that there is no face, only the rings holding the Roman numerals and the hands. The rings are painted black and the rest gold. It is positioned on the tower quite high up, above the sill string course and above one of the C12th round-arched, two order windows.
