Covington Wood has been owned by the National Trust since 1970.
It sits on the south side of Readymoney Cove, close to the entrance of Fowey Harbour. The trees are a mix of deciduous species, the majority being Beech. At the eastern end of the wood is a viewpoint over the harbour entrance and a footpath down to St Catherine`s Castle. During the World War Two an artillery battery was based in the wood in order to protect the harbour. Remains of the battery can still be found at the top of the wood.
The listed coordinates are for the NT marker plaque which is stationed just inside the gateway to Allday`s Fields - a public open area above the cliffs. The nearest parking is at Coombe Farm, also a National Trust property. There is a £2 parking fee for non NT members.
Access is also available up a path at the back of Readymoney Cove, or down the Love Lane track from Rashleigh Lane in the Lankelly area of Fowey.
