About Cape Point
Cape Point is located on the Cape Peninsula, about 60 km southwest of Cape Town, in a nature reserve that is a part of the Table Mountain National Park, and it has been declared a Natural World Heritage Site. The Cape Point reserve has extraordinary flora and fauna, an eye-popping coastline, and interesting geology. Visitors may see Cape Mountain Zebras, baboons, buck, or some of the more than 250 species of birds that have been reported here. The diverse landscape is gorgeous, and bursts with millions of blooms each spring. The official website boasts “The natural vegetation of the area, fynbos, comprises the smallest but richest of the world's six floral kingdoms”.
The area is rich in history too, being an important and respected cape, around which many sailors passed (and many others lost their lives in the treacherous waters). A lighthouse was completed on the tip of the Cape in 1859 and it is a popular destination for visitors today.
The Cape Point park is in Table Mountain National Park’s “Cape Floral Region”, a World Heritage Site. The Table Mountain chain, stretches from Signal Hill near downtown Cape Town, this location at Cape Point on the coastline of the Cape Peninsula.
