This rail is from a spur track off the
National City & Otay Railway which
served the stone quarry below the
Sweetwater Dam. The rock was
used for many San Diego projects,
including the jetty protecting the
San Diego Bay. The Sweetwater
branch was washed out by the 1916
Hatfield flood and was not rebuilt.
