The Saskatchewan
The Indians called it Kisiskatchewan, the river that flows rapidly. Some of the early explorers and fur traders who used the river were 'Kelsey', the Laverendryes', 'Chevalier De La Corne' and 'Henday'. The fur traders from Canada and the Hudson's Bay Company were rivals on the river.
By 1800 the struggle between the XY company the Nor'Westers and the Hudson Bay Company was at its bitterest. Fur trades posts dotted both branches of the Saskatchewan as the fierce struggle for supremacy of the fur trade continued.
Later on the companies joined and the fierce Rivalry on the 'Saskatchewan' ceased.
