At the entrance to Squaw Valley, site of the VIII Winter Olympic Games, is a memorial to the event on each side of the road.
On the right side of the road is the Tower of Nations, standing 79 feet tall and 29 feet wide. Crowned with the five Olympic rings, each eight feet in diameter, it displays the crests of all the competing nations.
On the left side of the road, a second tower of the same size displays the symbol for the events held during the Olympics which included hockey, figure skating, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, ski jumping and biathlon.
In front of each tower is an Olympic flame kept burning today in honor of the Olympics.
