This small zoo is located at the slope of the hill south of the psychiatric clinic of Liestal. It is a popular destination for patients of the clinic as well as families of the surrounding area. It is always open to the public free of charge.
The zoo has about 20 species, most of them uncommon varieties of farm animals. Until 2012 the zoo was managed and maintained by the clinic, but some changes in health insurance regulations led to budget cuts. The zoo was transferred to a newly founded non-profit organization that is now responsible for it as an independent entity. The foundation is mainly funded by donations of privates and local businesses.
