Narcissus was a Greek god who fell in love with his own reflection in a pond. His obsession with his reflection lead to his death through self-neglect.

The life-size bronze sculpture created in 1989 by Elbert Weinberg sits on a circular bronze plinth which rests on a circular cement pillar. In Elbert Weinberg's take on the myth a female nude figure is shown with her arms and legs pulled close to her torso in a self-embrace. She is affected by the same blinding self-fixation that lead to her brothers death.

The character is figurative since there is no mention in the ancient Greek sources of the classic retelling of the story by the poet Ovid that Narcissus had a sister.
