Charles Edmonton has been a successful inventor and is raising funds for his latest invention, Fuel-less transportation. There are several investors who have put up cash. One of them, Julian Shepherd, has got himself into financial difficulties and wants his stake back. He secretly meets with Edmonton and is later found dead in his car in the river. Barnaby investigates.
Troy, meanwhile is assigned to wildlife protection and is ion the trail of an illegal bird’s egg collector. Unfortunately, the collector visits the Edmonton Estate and is later found dead in bed, with major bruising to his body. Before he died he told his housekeeper that he had seen a dead body in the freezer on the estate.
Barnaby realises that the dead body in the freezer was Charles Edmonton. He is to be cremated that day and Barnaby makes a dash to the crematorium to rescue the body. Edmonton had Alzheimers disease, but the family and financier George Hamilton had been trying to keep the fact from investors until all the money was in. Likewise, when Edmonton died they kept the body in the freezer until the money was in.
Whilst Hamilton and the Edmonton family were guilty of fraud, Barnaby still had to find the murderer. The death certificate was signed by Edmonton’s daughter, Naomi Sinclair, a GP. It was she who murdered Shepherd and the bird’s egg collector. She had intended to run off with Hamilton. Unfortunately Hamilton’s wife found out and wreaked revenge.
