Bertie and Gussie Finknottle are down at Totleigh Towers for a party. Gussie has boosted confidence due to advice given by Jeeves. Jeeves advised Gussie to think about the bad points about Sir Watkyn and Roderick Spode when doing a speech. Gussie has gone one further and written his thoughts in a notebook. Unfortunately Gussie has lost the notebook and Stephanie has found it.
Stephanie refuses to give Bertie Gussie’s book unless he steals a policeman’s helmet for her. Stephanie gives the note book to Spode, but Bertie gets it from Spode using the Eulelie trick. Bertie doesn’t steal the helmet, but Harold Pinker does. Stephanie hides the helmet in Bertie’s room, and he is arrested. Jeeves uses the Eulelie word to get Roderick Spode to admit stealing the helmet.
