There's a huge pit for quartz sand in the near of Frechen, Germany, Nordrhein-Westfalen.
The pit exists since 1884.
It is huge! It's length is 1500 meters and its depth is about 70 meters.
Every year there are several hundred thousand tons of quartz sand mined. For this purpose, four large bucket wheel excavators are used. The pit has about 200 employees. The sand deposits is still sufficient for several decades.
The corodinates have been taken at a look-out point where also an information board is located.
