St Werburgh's is located in the middle of farmland approx 5kms southwest of Mt Barker.The church was built on the property of George Egerton-Warburton as the nearest church was sited in Albany 56kmn to the south. The church was consecrated in 1874. The building's walls are made of straw and clay, the wood was locally sourced jarrah and is built in the Gothic Revival style, featuring a pointed arch entrance and a bell tower with a spire.The building is rectangular in plan . The high pitched hipped roof was originally clad with shingles but is now covered with corrugated iron.
The church remained the only place of worship in the Mt. Barker district until 1900.
Sevices in the church are still held by candle-light as there is no electricity connected
