Joseph Allen died fighting the Owl Lodging House Fire when the building collapsed on him. This plaque in front of his engine company pays tribute to him.

Joseph Allen was one of three firefighters who died in the Owl Lodging House Fire on October 5, 1917. They were trapped under the collapsed walls of a three-story frame lodging house destroyed by the fire.

This memorial plaque is located on the front of Station 35 in San Francisco, where Allen was serving on Engine 9. The main plaque reads:
