Joseph Allen was one of three firefighters who died in the
Owl Lodging House Fire on October 5, 1917. They were trapped under the collapsed walls of a three-story frame lodging house destroyed by the fire.
This memorial plaque is located on the front of Station 35 in San Francisco, where Allen was serving on Engine 9.
