This public park consists of 90.5 acres on the former estate of Asahel Bush, an influential early Salem resident who founded the Ladd & Bush Bank as well as the Oregon Statesman newspaper. Bush's estate was a working dairy farm and the old barn is now the Bush Barn Art Center. Adjacent to the barn is the greenhouse, known as the Bush Conservatory, which is the oldest greenhouse in Oregon and said to be the first established west of the Mississippi River. Bush's large Italianate home is maintained as a museum.

The park also includes a soapbox derby track and several sports facilities that provide home field for Willamette University football and baseball as well as tennis courts for public use. The park also includes the municipal rose garden containing over 2,000 varieties of roses.
