In Norwood's Highland Cemetery is this grave stone for Aline C. Newman, who lived from 1903 to 2005 and lived about 102 years.
The direct way to get to the grave is to enter the southeast entrance of the cemetery and continue driving to the mark on the left. It is in a few graves from the road but is visible. There are currently three flags around it: one on either side and one in front. There is a slightly larger marker is up against the back.
The grave is a regular grey stone marker. The text on the front is:
"Newman
1903 W Donald 1971
His wife
1903 Aline C 2005"
I could not find anything about either person. Also, the month and day was not provided for each year, so the age is approximate.
In 1903, when Aline was born:
- President Teddy Roosevelt shuts down a Post Office because they would not accept an appointed Post Mistress who was black.
- Ford Motor Company and Pepsi Co. form.
- 1st Tour de France bicycle race begins
- 1st baseball World Series, Pittsburgh Pirates vs Boston Pilgrims (Red Sox)
In 2005:
- Eris, the largest known dwarf planet in our solar system, is discovered.
- Condoleezza Rice is sworn in as U.S. Secretary of State, becoming the first African American woman to hold the post.
- Hurricane Katrina devestates the Gulf Coast, including New Orleans, Biloxi, and Gulfport. Later, Rita would head toward Texas and western Louisiana.
- The Colbert Report on the Comedy Channel first airs.
