This seed drill could plant 10 closely-spaced rows of crops such as wheat, oats, barley, etc in a single pass. By mixing granular fertilizer with the crop seeds and adjusting the metering gates, fertilozer could be applied at the same time that seeds were planted. Furrows were automatically opened in front of the feed tubes, the seeds/fertilizer dropped down the feed tubes at the proper rate into the furrows, and then the furrows closed up by a drag pulled behind the drill.
