Manila is a very small community that relies on the fishermen and visitors who come to enjoy Flaming Gorge Reservoir, just a few miles away. It is the only urban center of any size anywhere on the west side of the 91-mile long lake and is the only local supply center for these visitors.
Flaming Gorge Reservoir is noted for outstanding fishing. The Utah record for a Mackinaw Lake Trout was caught in the reservoir and weighed over 50 pounds! So the trout shown leaping at the star that represents Manila's geographical position in the state is quite appropriate.
