On the northeastern corner of the courthouse lawn, the UNION MEMORIAL, a figure of a Union soldier on a pedestal of gray Vermont granite, commemorates the 1,800 Union soldiers from Perry County who served in the Civil War. - Missouri: A Guide to the "Show Me" State, Tour 11, pg. 522-523.
