On June 29, 2006, the City of Temple celebrated the city's 125th Birthday with an unveiling of the newly remodeled Municipal Building. June 29, 1881 was the date of the original sale of town lots and the Municipal Building was constructed in 1928. The building has undergone several renovations and beautifications through the years. It is in the heart of downtown Temple which has been renovating and reinvigorating the downtown area of the city with new restaurants, shops, and building face-lifts.
Temple is named for the Santa Fe Railroad's chief engineer Bernard Moore Temple. The city started as a railroad town, but has grown to be so much more.
