The U.S.S. Hartford was named after the City of Hartford and commanded by Admiral David Farragut. The crew of the ship were instrumental in the Union victories at the Battle of New Orleans and the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War.
A monument honoring to the U.S.S. Hartford contains the 2' high bell from this namesake ship, suspended from a 5' high concrete support and base. A bronze plaque noting the victorious accomplishments of the ship and its crew during the Civil War.
The plaque is inscribed:
