In June 1897 Governor Cassius Barnes gave diplomas to three Oklahoma A&M graduates, including one to Jessie Thatcher, the FIRST female graduate of the college (later known as Oklahoma State University).
The marker honoring Jessie can be found at the north side of Fairlawn Cemetery. She shares this marker with her spouse, Henry.
