The canal is the longest in Northern England. Officially it is listed as being 127 miles long, but an extra ¼ mile is mentioned on most of the milestones along the canal.

In this case only half of the milestone is visible and indicates that the distance to Liverpool is 47 miles.

Unless you know the length of the canal you won't know the sistance to Leeds.
