Lake Ballard is a large saltpan that extends 50km east to Menzies. It is one lake in a vast system of salt lakes that follow the course of ancient riverbeds.
Lake ballard is also the setting for the inspiring artwork "Inside Australia", commissioned to mark the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of Perth International Arts Festival 2003.
The installation by acclaimed British artist Anthony Gormley has created international attention. It comprises 51 figures that occupy this remote corner of the lake.
Inside Australia covers approximately 10 square kilometers. Allow 5-7 hours to walk the entire installation.
