Ghost Rock - Pictographs on Waymarking.com

Not recomended for idiots (you know who you are), this is a 4X4 "drive-by" WayMark. Maybe you don't need a 4X4 but I would'nt try it without one. The temp easily gets to 120 degrees and flash floods can up-root trees and tumble boulders. You can rent a 4X4 in nearby Moab. While your're in Moab, visit the Moab Visitor's Center and pick up a free pamplet on where to find other nearby Rock Art sites, like "Moonflower Canyon", which has not been Waymarked yet.

Now take the trail from Moab starting between the BK and McD's. Take it easy on the trail, some drop-offs are over 800 feet straight down and there is no guard rail. There is a pull-off just seventy feet from the cache, er, I mean WayPoint.

It's a bit of a scamper down from the trail but it's safe enough and you won't have to slide on your backside.

Ghost Rock is also known as "Birthing Scene Rock Art" because of the glyph showing a child being born. (Note: Feet First?) Be sure to see all four sides of the rock. The various hand print, paw print, triangle-anthropomorphs, and insects help date these glyphs as from the "Formative Period" (around AD 0001 to AD 1250) when the Anasazi and Fremont styles overlapped. Be sure to see all four sides of the rock.

Good luck getting turned around and back into town. To turn around safely, I would just follow the rim trail until it goes down into the canyon and makes a T at a BLM campsite ($5.00 a night). It's worth the ride anyway.
