The railway station of Arth-Goldau was built in 1876. It was originally planned at a different location and was then reconsidered because of financial reasons.
It is located in a small town, but as very important junction in the Swiss railway system it is served by every long distance connection in the North-South direction, passenger and freight traffic.
The main lines are to the South, Ticino and Italy, to the West over Luzern to either Basel or Bern, and to the North over Zug to Zürich. Additional there is a small line of Südostbahn to the North-East and it is the base station of the touristic cog railway Arth-Rigi-Bahn.
