Nakiska, and more specifically Mount Allan, was the site of the alpine events during the XV 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Alberta Tomba of Italy (Men's Giant Slalom and Men's Slalom) and Vreni Schneider of Switzerland (Women's Giant Slalom and Women's Slalom) each won two gold medals. Karen Pearcy, from Banff just down the highway, did the home country proud by winning two bronze medals (Women's Downhill and Women's Super Giant Slalom) and finishing fourth in the combined - all with a broken thumb.

Today it is still an active ski resort.
