The final resting place of Mary Parrish is at the northeast corner of Fairlawn Cemetery, at the north end of the section. Hers is a horizontal marker with a family monument (Parrish).

1919: Pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski becomes the second Prime Minister of Poland.
1929: The inaugural Monaco Grand Prix is won by William Grover-Williams driving a Bugatti.
1939: British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain gives a speech in Birmingham, stating that Britain will oppose any effort at world domination on the part of Germany.
1949: English astronomer Fred Hoyle coins the term Big Bang during a BBC Third Programme radio broadcast
1959: A chartered plane transporting musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper and pilot Roger Peterson goes down in foggy conditions near Clear Lake, Iowa, killing all 4 occupants on board. The tragedy is later termed "The Day the Music Died", popularized in Don McLean's 1972 song "American Pie".
1969: Apollo program: Apollo 9 returns safely to Earth after testing the Lunar Module.
1979: The Albert Einstein Memorial is unveiled at The National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC.
1989: Portugal wins the FIFA U-20 World Cup, defeating Nigeria on the final by 2–0 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
1999: While trying to circumnavigate the world in a hot air balloon, Colin Prescot and Andy Elson set a new endurance record after being aloft for 233 hours and 55 minutes.
2011: May 1 – U.S. President Barack Obama announces that Osama bin Laden, the founder and leader of the militant group Al-Qaeda, has been killed during an American military operation in Pakistan
