Gravesite and marker of Sgt Edward Edwin Dodds, the only one of 26 Canadian recipients of the Medal of Honor who fought in the Civil War to be buried outside of the USA.
He enlisted in the US Army at Rochester, NY and was a Sergeant in Company C, 21st New York Cavalry.
He earned his Medal at Ashby's Gap, VA, 19 July, 1864.
Citation: At great personal risk rescued his wounded captain and carried him from the field to a place of safety.
Sgt Dodds was awarded the Medal 11 June, 1896.
