The Monument for Denmark’s International Effort Since 1948 by artist Finn Reinbothe was erected by the Danish people and inaugurated on Flag Day 5 September 2011.

It is is situated in Kastellet an historic pentagram shaped fortress in Copenhagen. Although no longer used as a defensive installation it is still used an active military area that belongs to the Danish Defence Ministry. At the same time it is an historic building and a public park open during daylight hours.
Finn Reinbothe’s monument consists of three spaces, defined by granite walls with built-in lighting.

Description of Memorial: The memorial is near to the middle of the fortress set away slightly from the buildings. It is surrounded on 3 sides by a grassy bank.
The memorial is made of granite walls in 3 sections.
One section lists all personnel who have died in active service. There are currently 109 names listed in this section.
A second section lists all the countries where Danish forces have been deployed since 1948 in both combat and peace keeping roles. There is an ocagonal hole in this wall. On the ground is a piece of granite that contains an eternal flame and is the same size and shape as the hole.
The 3rd section is for contemplation of current forces deployed abroad and has the text 'Et sted – Et menneske' - translated into English: 'One time – One place – One human'.
