This mark is embedded in a the concrete wall for a culvert along U.S. Highway 31 in Calera, Alabama.

This particular benchmark is on the side of the road, but the coordinates on the geocaching datasheet were a bit off. I used my own coordinates for this post, but note that they are different from the ones on the datasheet. The location is between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue, along the east side of the highway. After finding the mark, I noticed an arrow painted on the highway with the letters "BM" next to it.
The 1943 description from the datasheet reads:
01/01/1948 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1948 0.6 MI N FROM CALERA. ABOUT 0.6 MILE NORTH ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 31 FROM THE BANK BUILDING AT CALERA, 145 YARDS NORTH OF THE JUNCTION OF A ROAD EAST, SET IN THE TOP OF THE NORTH END OF THE EAST HEAD WALL OF AN 11-FOOT CONCRETE CULVERT WITH PARTITION OVER A SMALL CREEK, 30 FEET EAST OF AND ABOUT LEVEL WITH THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY.
