This church building had been a part of the community since the 1880s, so it was easy to use it as a survey mark in 1943.

In 1943, the United States was deeply involved in World War II. Some 16 million served in uniform, but others remained to accomplish tasks such as surveying. I was not able to find much information on the building, but the spire is still there. It is located at the corner of Hardaway Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The 1943 description from the datasheet reads:

01/01/1943 by CGS (FIRST OBSERVED)

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 (GWL) THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS LOCATED IN THE TOWN OF UNION SPRINGS, 1 BLOCK E OF MAIN STREET, 65 FEET W OF THE CENTER OF U.S. HIGHWAY 29 AND 75 FEET N OF AN E-W STREET. IT IS SLATE GRAY IN COLOR AND TRIMMED IN SILVER, HAVING A WEATHER VANE ON THE TOP. IT IS ABOUT 110 FEET HIGH. THE POINT OBSERVED UPON WAS THE APEX OF THE SPIRE.
