North Water Tank - Union Springs, AL - Water Towers on Waymarking.com

The name painted on the tank is "Utility Board of Union Springs" and I looked for it as a benchmark. It is possible it is a replacement tank from the one noted in the description, but it still stands out. Since I parked outside the fence, I used the coordinates from the benchmark page.

The 1943 description from the benchmark page reads:

01/01/1943 by CGS (FIRST OBSERVED)

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 (GWL) THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS LOCATED IN THE NORTHERN OUTSKIRTS OF THE TOWN OF UNION STRINGS 297 FEET W OF U.S. HIGHWAY 29. IT IS A SILVER BOWL SUPPORTED BY A FOUR-LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE. IT IS ABOUT 130 FEET HIGH. THE POINT OBSERVED UPON WAS THE APEX OF THE BOWL.
