This mark is a metal rod under a marked cover. It is located outside of Montevallo, Alabama, on Middle Street (County Road 10), near the intersection with County Road 17.

Driving from Montevallo, the mark will be on the left side, next to a witness post. There is a cover in the ground with the designation, W 458 on the outside rim. When you open the lid, the rod itself can be clearly seen.
The 1981 description from the datasheet reads:

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1981 5.25 KM (3.25 MI) SW FROM DOGWOOD. 0.20 KILOMETER (0.1 MILE) WEST ALONG COUNTY ROAD 17 AND 22 FROM THE CROSSING OF THE SOUTHERN RAILROAD IN DOGWOOD, THENCE 5.05 KILOMETERS (3.15 MILES) SOUTH ALONG COUNTY ROAD 17 TO THE JUNCTION OF COUNTY ROAD 10 AND THE MARK ON THE RIGHT, ALSO 1.7 KILOMETER (1.05 MILES) WEST ALONG COUNTY ROAD 10 FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 119 IN MONTEVALLO, 10.21 METERS (33.5 FEET) SOUTHWEST OF THE EXTENDED CENTER LINE OF COUNTY ROAD 17, 6.86 METERS (22.5 FEET) SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF COUNTY ROAD 10, 0.52 METER (1.7 FEET) EAST-SOUTHEAST OF A UTILITY POLE. NOTE-SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO DRIVE THE ROD, ROD DRIVEN TO REFUSAL AND EMBEDDED AT 1.5 METERS. THE MARK IS 0.49 METERS WNW FROM A WITNESS POST. THE MARK IS 0.25 M BELOW COUNTY ROAD 10.
