GHOST SHRIMP FISHERY
In cooperation with the Oregon Department of Fish &
Wildlife and the commercial bait shrimp industry, the
following area has been set aside (reserved) for sport
collection of ghost shrimp. From a point at the
end of Robinson Park parking lot at the Port of Alsea,
out 300 feet and south the Hwy. 101 bridge.
CAUTION! Proceed with care on tidal flats.
Deep, soft areas are created by shrimp pumping
activity and may be dangerous if stepped in.
Common in Oregon estuaries, the ghost shrimp is
used by people as bait for salmon, steelhead, perch
and other ocean and bay fish. In its larval stage, the
ghost shrimp is an important food source for many
species of fish. Alsea Bay has consistently provided
the majority of the bait shrimp used by Oregon's
recreational anglers. |
