This bench is located across from the marina at the Port of Alsea in Waldport. It honors Fred Nay, Sr.
According to Mr. Nay's obituary: "He was born in Lake Bronson, Minn. on April 30, 1923 to Paul and Blenda (Blomqist) Nay. He went into the Civilian Conservation Crps for a year and then joined the Army in 1944 serving with the 494th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 12th Armored Division. He retired as a Tech Sergeant in 1963. He then joined the Teamsters to work in the shipping industry until retiring in 1983.
He married Fusa Yoshiyama in Yokohama, Japan on December 19, 1951.
He enjoyed crabbing, fishing, cutting wood, cooking and throwing parties. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Waldport, the American Legion, Lincoln County Sheriff's Posse, Sons of Norway, and 12th Armored Division "The Hell Cats."
