"A group giant golems guarding the Rock River in Rockford. An excellent form of public art that anyone can appreciate. Definitely a good photo op. Bring a funny hat for the Guardians to wear.

You can walk or bike here via the Rock River Recreational Bike Path. Alternately, drive real close to it by turning onto Ethel Road from Second Street at the light. Bear left so that you turn away from the conservatory and keep an eye out for the big guys in a copse of pine trees on your right. It's directly behind the first building you come to (and it's parking lot)."

"Donated by John and Linda Anderson, and the Art in parks Committee, these are sometimes referred to as vikings, gladiators, or Transformers! Each 3-ton guardian "came to life" following careful placement of the 40-to-100 pound boulders by the artist and her helpers. Community volunteers came forward to assist Milwaukee artist Terese Agnew to construct two Rock Men in May of 1987 and the final two in October of 1988."

Probably the strangest Smithsonian sculpture entry (visit link) I have had the pleasure to discover!
