Fritjof Kjellberg's bronze statue of Carl von Linnaeus (1707-1778) was unveiled on 13th May, 1885.
The statue shows Linnaeus holding his Systema Naturae and a twinflower - Linnaea borealis - in his left hand. The inauguration of the statue was an occasion of great public festivities. Twinflowers bedecked the city and appeared on the labels of cigar boxes ond bottles of arrack punch.
The sculpture can be seen in Google Street View.
