This statue is constructed of small-diameter concrete reinforcing rod ('rebar') that does an admirable job of representing the shaggy coat of fur worn by these magnificent animals. Commissioned by Dayton's and sculpted by Bennett Brien, this statue is a fitting icon for this Great Plains state, one-time grazing ground to millions of these animals. The plaque on the base of the statue reads:
A Gift To the People of North Dakota
In Honor of the State's Centennial
By Dayton's
September 12, 1986
Artist -- Bennett Brien
