Pierson Building Center has a signature 30 foot hammer out front holding up their sign. The title of this strip, Peenhead, is a play on Zippy being a Pinhead. Actually this is a claw hammer and not a ballpeen hammer.

Zippy had a conversation with the big hammer, which involved hammer kind of humor. This strip appeared during the Bush administration, just before the September 11th attack on New York. Zippy asked the hammer what it thought of the Dubya (GWB) presidency and the hammer said "i'd like to give it a good whack." Zippy asked when the hammer would like to smash the state and the hammer replied, "Well, don't nail me down."
