New Ulm, the City of "Charm and Tradition," is nestled just 90 miles southwest of the Twin Cities, in the heart of the scenic Minnesota River Valley.
New Ulm is becoming known as the "Christmas City" with its many Christmas traditions held each year. We "kick off" our Christmas season with a parade of lights, held the Friday after Thanksgiving.
New Ulm has many historic attractions; Hermann Monument, Glockenspiel, Harkin Store, Museum, Wanda Gag Home, John Lind Mansion and Schell's Brewery are just to mention a few.
We celebrate these festivals during the year:
• Oktoberfest - held the first and second weekend in October in two locations, features German food, music and entertainment.
• Fasching - held the weekend before Ash Wednesday, is a German type Mardi Gras. This festival, put on by the Concord Singers, features a costume ball, German food and music.
