The sculpture depicts an 18th century Spanish soldier as he would be guarding the presidio of Tucson as a desert outpost. He is standing holding a spear and a shield. He is wearing clothing of a tradition horse soldier including leather vest, and lever chaps over his trousers, with boots with spurs. He is wearing a broad hat.
