This Man-Lift Cage (Personnel Elevator) is on display in front of the Bonne Terre Mine Tour office located at 39 N Allen Street in Bonne Terre, Missouri.

Cages such as this were used to lift small numbers of men and light loads (usuall drill bits) in and out of the mine or between horizontal mine levels. They were often mounted about the heavy-lift cages used to transport loaded ore cars or other heavy loads on rail cars. The vertical rod through the center of the cage transferred the lifting force of the hoist winch through to the heavy-lift cage below. Many drill bits were taken out of the mine every day to be sharpened and then returned below. They were often transported via this light cage.
