This is a bronze bust of Augusto da Silva Carvalho (Tavira, 1861 – 1957), on a stone plinth, where he's represented in a scale slightly larger then real life, wearing normal clothes. This man was a doctor, teacher, hospital manager and historian. He studied medicine in Escola Médico-Cirúrgica de Lisboa and later he published a considerable amount of medical essays.
He was the president of Sociedade das Ciências Médicas de Lisboa and taught History of Medecine in the University of Lisbon. He was a member of the prestigious Sciences Academy of Lisbon from 1928.
The statue can be found in a small park, located in a nice and quiet square not far from the center of Tavira.
