The Franconia Fountain, unveiled in 1894, was created by Ferdinand von Miller the Younger. It was a tribute by Wurzburg and Franconia to Prince Regent Luitpold, who was born in 1821 in the Wurzburg Residenz.
It features an allegorical figure of Franconia at the top and around the base are statues of Walther von der Vogelweide, the poet, Tilman Riemenschneider, the sculptor and woodcarver, and Matthias Grünewald, painter, all of whom were associated with Wurzburg.
