Local author Debra Cowan wrote this romance story set in the Oklahoma City/Davis area of Oklahoma. Detective Mace Garrett has had a year to try and get over a breakup with his former fiancee Devon Landry. Devon is the daughter of a former cop, a friend of Mace's, who was murdered while she was in the house in another room. Knowing she was not strong enough to handle being married to someone who put their life at risk every day, she broke up the relationship and moved on to a "bean counter" of a boyfriend.
A year after the murder, Devon starts to remember details of the crime and courageously meets with Mace to tell him what she remembers. Mace was supposed to be at Devon's house the night of the murder, but was running late and arrived minutes after Officer Landry was killed. Mace and Devon want nothing more than to put the killers behind bars.
Once Devon tells the police that she can identify who she saw at her house that night, things take a turn for the worse and it's clear her life is in danger. Mace takes Devon to his aunt's house in Davis, OK, where they will be safe while his fellow officers follow up on leads and arrest the suspects.
