The place
The Cal Poly Education Building was constructed in 1941. The 51,000 square foot building was designed by the Office of the State Architect and cost near 15.5 million dollars. It is of concrete frame and exterior construction, with a tile roof. The architectural style is Mission Revival and one of the features of the building is its clock tower.

The Person
Named for Cal Poly 1960 Engineering alumnus, Joseph Cotchett who went to to become one of the foremost attorneys in the country. In 2004 Cotchett and his wife donated 7 million dollars to Cal Poly to promote the education of math and science teachers. In recognition of their generosity, the education building was renamed The Cotchett Educational Building.
