These cabins were located within 800 feet of the Canadian border an island on Knife Lake and were the home of Dorothy Molter, "The Rootbeer Lady"

Dorothy Molter lived on Isle of Pines on Knife Lake in the Boundary Waters
Canoe Area for 56 years, until her death in 1986. She had been granted life
rights to remain in the wilderness area. She was visited by as many as 6,000 to
7,000 people a year. Dorothy's homestead was dismantled in 1987 as was required
by law. The cabins were transported piece by piece by dogsled and snowmobile to
Moose Lake, and then on to downtown Ely. Where volunteers restored two of her
cabins.
Though the buildings were located just inside the United States when they
were dismantled they were at least temporary in Canada as they were moved by
dogsled and snowmobile along the border lakes and rivers.
