The red brick building with brownstone trim which housed the fire station at the turn of the century is easy to identify today as a special historical structure. Fire House No. 1 is Romanesque architecture and was designed and built by Francis Fitzpatrick and Oliver Traphagen. It is easily recognized on the corner of 1st Avenue and 3rd Street in downtown Duluth.
